I’ve heard of this game Pai Gow but I don’t know how to play. Does anyone have any tips or description of this game? How much would one need to play and be profitable with this game? Also, what are the odds of winning? I’m trying to plan a casino trip so I’m trying to learn about all the different games and their odds.

If you want to play for money then learn it online first!! This is the game that also known as two hand poker. You hold seven cards and are supposed to make two hands from them-a five card and a two card poker hand. The five cards value must be more than the two.
You’re aim is to beat the banker (sometimes the dealer, sometimes another player). I don’t play this, so can’t help with strategy.

I’ve never played it either but I think that is great advice to learn to play online first. You might also want to stand at the table side and watch other players playing. You might be able to ask those watching for advice on how to play the game but definitely don’t play unless you learn the game first.

I too know little of it, but it does have some differences to normal poker. I know that you pay a rake, a base set amount which is either a fee to play a hand or a take from the winnings. The games are longer-its slower playing than other varieties of poker, so for a newbie it might be nice to try.

I am new to this game but it has to have the coolest name of any game at the casino, I mean Roulette, sound cool but “Pai Gow”, how cool is that! I am doing good enough with one handed poker, maybe I will pick this up later, but now for me right now.

I agree that it does sound a pretty cool name, especially compared to most games. I would imagine that it is far more popular or frequently played in the Asian casinos than it is over here, though it’s getting more popular over here now too.

Hi, Pai Gow, is actually in the Chinese dialect Cantonese, the literal translation is ” to make nine ” Pai means ” to make “, and Gow means the number nine. I know thats not what you were asking, lol, but its fun to know. I’ve been dealing and teaching the card version for the past 15 years, and the tile version for the past 8. Its interesting to note that the thing they have in common with eachother is that both have a high and a low hand, and the name only, really, I’m not kidding.

Here’s the Wikipedia version:
Pai Gow poker (also called Double-hand poker) is an Americanized version of Pai Gow (in that it is played with playing cards bearing poker hand values, instead of Pai Gow’s Chinese dominoes). The games of Pai Gow poker and Super Pan-9 were created by Sam Torosian and Fred Wolf.
The game is played with a standard 52-card deck, plus a single joker. It is played on a table set for six players, plus the dealer. Each player attempts to defeat the banker (who may be the casino dealer, or one of the other players at the table).

work out the odds of winning with the 2-card and 5-card. Add the percentages together for each option, set your hand to maximize your total percent. To answer any of your hypotheticals, look at this page:

I have never played Paigow and was pretty intimidated by it. Actually the name itself felt so weird to me that I never tried to know about it but after my short stint here on this forum, I am now pretty much interested to know more about it. I am sure the veterans here would help me in the same.

Player receives seven cards, which he/she splits into two hands – a five card hand and a two card hand. The object is to beat the dealer.
In Pai Gow Poker, the object is to divide your seven card hand into a five-card (“Highest”) and a two-card hand (“2 nd Highest”). The five-card hand must always outrank the two-card hand.

There are quite a few different strategies how to be splitting up hands for pai gow. Here are a few scenerios if you are holding 2 pairs: 1.Your highest pair contains one of these pairs- Jack through Ace: Use this hand in your HIGH hand & the other pair in your LOW hand.
2.Your highest pair contains one of these pairs- 7’s through 10’s: You’d split the two pairs unless you are holding an ACE card. If you don’t have an ACE card, use your lowest pair in your LOW hand and your highest pair in your HIGH (7-10’s) hand.
3. Your highest pair contains one of these pairs- 2’s through 6’s: Split the pair, unless you hand a KING card in your hand. If you have a KING card, place this card in your LOW hand and keep both pairs in your HIGH hand. If you aren’t holding a KING, place the highest pair in HIGH hand and lowest pair in LOW Hand.
here’s a complete list if you’re still trying to figure out the strategies for all the other hands:
